Gymnosperm

A plant that produces seeds not enclosed in an ovary or fruit. The name means 'naked seed'. Gymnosperms include conifers (pines, spruces, firs), cycads, ginkgo, and gnetophytes. They typically bear their seeds in cones rather than flowers.
